Holiday coziness redefined

___

Are you ho-ho-hosting guests this holiday season? Whether you’re hiding out for a while in denial of life as you know it changing soon, Realtor.com’s Larissa Runkle offers ideas for moments of sheer retreat so you can load up on your favorite mulled wine or hot cocoa and grab a few moments for yourself.

Some objects promote leisure, and a small personal drink station is one of them. “A drink tray in the bedroom says, ‘Stay where you are and relax with your beverage of choice,’” says designer Courtney Wollersheim. “Choose a size that’s not too big or too small so the surface will remain steady with the drinks balanced on top.” She includes a secret, one-person happy hour in this idea.

A dreamy daybed simply spells cozy. Whether it’s contained in the guest bedroom or just a nap nook in your home, daybeds are an easy go-to that easily accommodates guests but is still liveable day to day, say designers Runkle consulted. Hosting or napping it’s a win-win for hosts and their guests.

Soft flannel sheets are a must at holiday time and on a cold winter’s night. They are sure to encourage everyone to tuck in early and sleep in late. “Flannel sheets not only offer warmth but have a visible texture that contributes to the overall vibe in the room,” says Wollersheim. “Style the bed with an eclectic collection of quilts, crochet blankets, and maybe a cross-stitch pillow to complete the effect.”

While extra storage and surface space are welcome in any bedroom, one of the best options for it is a console table or chest. Choose one in a winter wonderland hue and your guests will never forget it. “A console that began its life as a dining room or living room piece can be reimagined as a storage unit or dresser in your bedroom,” says Wollersheim. “Evergreen continues to be a popular choice as a new neutral for walls and furniture that matches well with gold or silver pulls.”

Less can often be more when it comes to wallpaper, but don’t limit yourself to a single accent wall in a bedroom retreat, as a cozy place can be made even cozier with all four walls covered in a dark, dramatic pattern for the ultimate cocoon-like feeling.
